North Coastal Express to Run Coastal Route Next Year

Mr W C Quinton Northern Area Railway Commissioner told the Lismore Chamber of Commerce that the Interstate express will use the coastal route next year regardless of Clarence bridge status. He noted the North Coast mails cannot be sped up for six months, and a new timetable is pending. He proposed extending the Kempsey mail to South Grafton when the Clarence bridge is finished. He warned the North Coast line is not profitable, citing heavy losses north of West Maitland. He did not support a Sydney Saturday North Coast train due to high cost and low justification.
