Garage Dwellings in Town Spur Advisory Building Committee

The council reviewed a Health and Building Inspector report by J W Murray on garages used as dwellings. Murray cited fifteen such units, four occupants lacking alternative housing. Dr Livermore urged forming a Building Advisory Committee to assist young builders with materials and finance, aiming to bulk-purchase supplies and reduce housing costs, noting costs have risen from about £1400-£1500 to roughly £2500. The council approved creating a Sub Committee to advise on building matters in the Shire.

Noxious Weeds Warning For Gloucester Landowners

Gloucester Shire Council discussed noxious weeds at Friday’s meeting with Noogoora Burr highlighted as the worst weed along the rivers. Dr Breese proposed an inspectors visit before March seeding, offering to carry out the work if funded. Council decided to advertise worming to landholders and defer further action to the incoming Council, noting Dr Breese’s offer.

Baby Health Centre To Vacate Premises

Gloucester Shire Council will allow the Baby Health Centre to move from Denison Street in February after Mrs Tilbrook announced that A M Barthwick bought the premises now used by the Association. Temporary use of the Board Room on Tuesday and Wednesday was approved for the centre, with council chambers offered as a short term site despite Health Department restrictions on first floor spaces.

Aircraft Landing Ground Completion Nears in Uke Gloucester

Newcastle Aero Club pressed Uke Gloucester Shire Council on when the Maddock intersection site at Uke Pacific Highway and Cohark Road would be finished for training. The Shire Engineer said trees were cleared but holes remained, work to fill them ongoing, with a promise the project would be completed soon.

P.M.G. Refuses Contribution to Bitumen Work at Gloucester Post Office

The Pratmaster-General's Department will not fund the extra bitumen on Denilson Street in front of the proposed Gloucester Post Office site. A prior bitumen strip and the extension in front of the PAG block cost about £12, with other landowners contributing to the original effort. The Commonwealth department stated it is not policy to fund such works and the payment could not be approved.

Gloucester Shire Council backs permanent Jubilee reminder plan
