Barrington Sunday School Picnic Ends with Fire
The second annual Barrington Upper Sunday School picnic was held on Saturday at Mr. J. Merchant’s property. Activities included races, popular tennis, piecing contests, and a rice-eating game. A fire outbreak in Mr. Sid Radford’s feeding stalls ended the day abruptly, destroying the roof and many stalls. Repairs proceed at Barrington School. gifts and tributes noted from local figures.

Prize Giving at Gloucester Public School
The Gloucester Public School will hold its annual Prize Giving at Star Theatre on Tuesday December 15 at 2.30 pm. Parents invited. Prizes donated by Parents and Citizens Association to be bought locally. Cups from District Sports and local tennis tournament may be presented. The article critiques low Parent and Citizens’ attendance and urges involvement. Intermediate Examinations begin next Tuesday and continue two weeks with many pupils seeking local employment afterward. Teachers offer to assist employers and commend the examination supervision committee for their service. Yearly Examinations will be conducted soon to determine promotions before vacation.

School reopens but portable room causes concern

Radium Recovered By Clever Work In Grimsby
Four hundred pounds of government radium, once dumped in rubbish, was recovered near Lisborne by junior engineer G Hepburn using an electroscope. The radium, owned by Dr R Kellas, was used for cancer treatment during his England visit. A cat fur charged rod powered the device as waste was searched and the radium recovered two feet below debris. Also, 14 Grimsby fishermen were saved after their steamer Trocadero foundered near Iceland. Austria moves to enroll all citizens under 18 in a state youth program with compulsory schooling and drill.
