Barry’s answer to Jerry on charity and wealth

A long dialogue in a pub voice debates charity versus leaving wealth to kin. It cites Josh Billings, Mr Garrett, and Charlie of Tumut, arguing that many millionaires fail to spend income yet give to charity, while some ordinary people support hospitals and kin alike. The piece ends with praise for Barry’s strong rebuttal and Jerry’s partial correctness.

Lightning strikes cow. youth knocked down in storm

During a storm over the Bellingen district a youth named Eric Johnston was driving a cow when a lightning flash struck the animal dead, knocking him to the ground. A large pine at Fernmount splintered in the same strike. Swarms of blue martins have invaded the Wagga district, destroying millions of grasshoppers and mystifying residents about the sudden influx of birds.
