Mr H S Walsh recalls during a mosquito plague at Harwood using permanganate of potash in water to wash floors doors and windows frames and to treat walls corners shelves and a yard well. He says wrigglers vanished after being exposed to the solution and beds were nets free. He also reports dry crystals around a setting hen repelling mosquitoes and aiding a full clutch of chicks. Tanks and swamps could be treated similarly.

Three Murder Charges Against American Soldier in Melbourne

United States Army authorities announce an American soldier held in confinement will be tried by a general court martial for the murder of Ivy Violet McLeod, Pauline Buchan Thompson, and Gladys Lilian Hosking in Melbourne. The panel will include 11 officers plus a judge advocate and military defence counsel. The suspect, of Russian father and Polish mother, remains in Melbourne city watchhouse under strong military guard. Police have no control over him.
