Stratford Visit Crowns Stratford Publicity Drive by Shakespeare Players
The Shakespeare Memorial Theatre Company of Stratford on Avon visited Stratford, Gloucester Shire, Australia, amid a whirlwind publicity drive. A Department of Interior crew filmed the event for overseas broadcasters while local papers and ABC coverage chronicled the visit. The party included Jody Jefford, Barbara Jefford, Terence Longden, Jane Holland, Leo McKern, and Keith Michell. Anthony Quayle could not attend. Public welcome to Stratford Public School drew wide turnout, with ceremonies, gifts, and plantings of crepe myrtle trees. Two veteran Stratford figures, Angus Graham and Arthur Turner, were remembered for enabling the visit.
