Banks Offer Loans Against Savings Pass Books
Private banks led by Bank of New South Wales will advance funds using Government Savings Bank pass books as security with current interest rates from 6 to 7 percent. Advances are not blanket but will be considered case by case, with withdrawals signed on normal slips. State Bank President Hall said the plan is not endorsed by the State Bank and entrants act at their own risk as the Commonwealth Bank Board contemplates further talks on amalgamation in Melbourne.
