Record Haul of Bream Tests Coast to Sydney Market
A wild fishing stretch from Crescent Head to South West Rocks reports abundant bream catches. At South West Rocks Gordon Young and crew hauled ten tons in eight hours. Despatches totalled 485 cases to Sydney markets, with 40 to 50 lb per crate. Hat Head saw a record haul of bream, 257 cases en route to Sydney. Mullet also appears in twenty miles of the river, and Crescent Head supplied 100 cases of mullet. Glut in Sydney markets pushes bream to sixpence per pound. Jock Sexton notes all mullet sold and prices are fair but cautions against market interference.
