Empire Day Glees Gloucester Volunteers Enduring Joy

Empire Day proceeded smoothly in Gloucester with a bright crowd of children, teachers, and spectators. Speakers praised unity and goodwill within the British Empire, highlighting the League of Nations aims and the Anzac legacy, while pupils performed songs and delivered messages of peace and friendship.

Flags at school honor Empire Day with historic flags

The school flag pole bore decorative flags loaned by Mr Mowle. The banners were from the vessel Berrima torpedoed in the Channel during the Great War. Empire Day reports from other schools are deferred to the next issue amid mystery island call by British warship.

H M S Milford Reaches Bouvet Island in South Atlantic

London notices report HMS Milford with Vice Admiral Evans aboard reached Bouvet Island at 10 the prior morning. The voyage, labeled an ordinary cruise, carries a marine biologist and Royal Observatory official to study conditions and magnetic movements. Unable to fuel fully, the sloop faces icebergs and rough seas while Cape Town beckons. Bouvet’s chart position remains doubtful. Britain once claimed the island but ceded it to Norway. Thompson Island nearby has disappeared.
