Conversion of Settlements into Leases in Perpetuity
The Minister for Lands announced the Closer Settlement Amendment Act of 1943 began on 6 March 1944 converting Settlement Purchases and Soldiers' Group Purchases into Leases in Perpetuity. Rentals drop from 5 percent of capital value plus 4 percent interest to 2 percent of completion value or freehold value, halving payments in many cases.
