Minister for Agriculture Mr Graham pledged substantial funds to the Southern Tablelands Dingo Destruction Board at a Tumut meeting. The board aims to curb dingoes to protect livestock and boost national food production. Chairman Mr Thomson praised the minister and his outstanding record in the department.
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Amendment Bill expands penalties and adds an indictable aggravated cruelty offence punishable by up to two years in jail. It broadens licensing powers for riding schools kennels and stables, regulates hare coursing circuses and knackery killings, and applies to anyone treating an animal.
The Minister for Agriculture E H Graham urged landholders to arrange with Local Pastures Protection Boards to hire rippers for rabbit destruction at £3 per week, with poison belt layers available for £1 weekly. He praised the Rabb it Destruction Authority facilities.
