Citizens and town councillors met on Tuesday night to discuss town issues and a possible ratepayers association. Dr Channon and Dr Farley praised the meeting and urged formation of a group to discuss future fourth can programme and local problems.
Stratford won the B grade knockout final by 16 runs after Gloucester slipped at key moments. C Martin starred with 43 wickets for Stratford while J Bignell and R Buchan led Gloucester bowling in a tense chase, with Stratford’s Joe Bignell and Claude Martin crucial with late scores.
Chairman F H Gallagher refused to exclude the press from a Central Coal Reference Board meeting despite a request by H Sutherland president of the Federated Engine Drivers and Firemen Association NSW branch. Sutherland claimed a newspaper and radio station distorted a judgment. Gallagher cited remedies for untruths.
A public meeting of Urban ratepayers agreed to propose to Gloucester Shire Council a list of works for the third loan programme. They urged bitumen and concrete paving on feeder streets, drainage emphasis, and a central town playground, with costs estimated around £3500 if funds permit.
