Health Inspector's Salary Debate at Shire Council
At the Tuesday council meeting a motion to reduce the Health and Sewerage Inspector’s pay from £442 to the award £266 failed by five to three. Dr. G D Laurie led the push, backed by Drs. Moore and E C Laurie, arguing for fairness to ratepayers and noting extra duties performed by the inspector and previous cost savings. Supporters of the current rate cited overpayment under the award and questioned administrative costs and travel expenses, while calls were made to review staff costs and record travel.
