Winter Milk Drive Boosts Dairymen Efforts in NSW

Mr. Dowling reported a shift to winter production with about 7000 gallons daily intake last year and now around 300 gallons daily per supplier. Concentrate feeding rose to 70 80 percent as farmers stored fodders lucerns and maize, improved hand feeding, and used concentrates despite higher costs. The NSW Milk Board chairman Mr. Ferguson praised better milk quality from country factories and the Gloucester district’s strong supplier response. Wallanbal production rose from 27500 to 37000 gallons in the winter month, while Belbora nearly doubled from 17000 to 30000 gallons. The majority of dairymen are to be complimented on their winter production effort.

Dingo Board Reports Leads and Expenditures Amid District Totals

At Tamworth meeting secretary E H Graham reported since January 254 dogs and 24 killed. District totals include Gloucester 113 dogs 5 pups Armidale 6 21 pups Port Macquarie 702 pups Tamworth dogs Upper Hunter 2. Scalp payments reached £501 with receipts £1277 since March. Traps sales £19 10d and outgoings £40 14s 3d. Statewide effort urged funding for dingo destruction.

Zabu Cross Test Delayed Five Years Says Expert

Sydney reports Dr. L B Bull of the Commonwealth Division of Animal Health and Production says results from crossing Zabu cattle with British stock cannot be expected for five years. The Aberdeen Angus body was informed of the protest over excluding Aberdeen Angus cattle from early experiments intended to create an Australian breed suited to Northern outback conditions and cattle tick.

New Gloucester to get large prefab telephone exchange

Plans prepared by the P M G Department envision a large prefab telephone exchange in Gloucester. Postmaster R King said the project would extend into the Denison Street block and move the engineering depot to King Street to ease crowding. He noted possible staff changes and taft adjustments depending on subscriber numbers.

Queen's Pilot From Barrington Stock Named for Royal Tour

Squadron Leader Jack Cornish of Barrington is appointed to the Queen's Flight and will captain the Queen's plane during next year's Royal tour of Australia. A veteran of the RAAF, he flew in the Berlin airlift and at Milne Bay earning the Australian Flying Cross. He later aided the Borneo landings and served with the Commonwealth Transport Squadron in England before returning to join the Queen's Flight.
