Council Inspects Electrical Appliances and Replaces Suppressor

About three to four months ago a flash over the area prompted the purchase of suppressors. Only three were available, a limited quantity for the job. An inspector acquired the needed units for the Council and most have since been fitted to pumps. A letter from the Chamber of Commerce led to calls for periodic home appliance inspections. The Engineer warned it would be continuous. one faulty plug after an inspection could appear. Previously the company used an insulating inspector for four months, followed by a mechanic. They inspected as they went, instructing households to fix faulty insulation. Dr Channon asked the percentage of dangerous appliances. the engineer said perhaps no more than 10 percent. Government stamps on appliances were discussed. A full house-to-house inspection would be lengthy, and new faults could arise after inspections. Residents were urged to report faulty appliances. Mr Lowe instructed workers to monitor for faults during rounds. It was agreed to warn householders via newspaper advertisement about unsatisfactory appliances and to have dealers fix any faults. A six-month depreciation statement ending 31st December 1946 was prepared for capital involved in urban and rural installations.
