Brisbane express upgrade on North Coast bridges
Preparations to run the Brisbane express on the North Coast involve replacing wooden bridges with steel and lengthening the permanent way on low sections between Veree and Kempsey. Bridge work occurs on Sundays to avoid traffic delays, with a two span steel bridge to be installed at mileage 263m 4tc between John’s River and Ross Glen. A major section near Wauchope and Pem broke was completed in 12 hours replacing an eight span wooden structure, under the supervision of Cowdery Letcher Keegers Agland and Palmer. The State Cabinet approved grants to municipalities for unemployed relief work, to be handled by Col. Bruxner and a sub-committee. The Public Works offices at Kempsey and Armidale closed. Coffs Harbour staff expanded with Newton succeeding Main and Slater moving from Kempsey as assistant engineer. A high grade Player Plane ad appeared for PALING'S SYDNEY.
