Lady’s shotgun misfires against hawk in rural Australia

In Bellingen a country housewife attempted to shoot a hawk in a tree but the hammer slipped and the charge ripped through the floor. After a misfire and memory of a mule kick she cocked again, fired, and the hawk woke and flew away. The woman later quipped I minged.

Liberal candidate outlines plan for NSW development ministry

Gloucester reports Liberal candidate Rod Richardson pledges no extravagant promises and proposes an immediate Ministry of Development to focus on roads water conservation electricity reticulation schools and hospitals in country areas. He calls for population growth immigration for higher primary product demand and price stabilization measures for agriculture with a repeal of ministerial veto on price fixing. He opposes Barrington headwaters diversion and urges sick electors to apply for postal votes by June 9.

Gloucester Chamber Plans Highway Petition Campaign

At a Gloucester Chamber of Commerce meeting on Tuesday night the group arranged for signing a petition to realign and bitumen seal the highway between Gloucester and Taree to highway standard. Petitions will be available at polling booths on Election Day June 17 throughout Gloucester and Tinonee subdivision. The petition will be submitted to the relevant Minister after the new government takes office. Bert Bourke, a timber-getter from Stroud, was injured Monday falling from a tree at Chelgrove mill in Bullahiedah, suffering a torn ligament and sprain to the left ankle. Results from Winchcombe Carson’s Homebush auction included multiple cattle and veal lots from Gloucester consignments with prices and averages listed.
