The Blackfellows of Carrington and Their Canoes
In youthful days near Carrington I saw Blackfellows build canoes from bark, weave shields and fight with rude clubs. They paddled 16 foot crafts across the harbor, faced storms, sharks and capsizes, and used smoke signals as long distance telegraphy to share tidings. The narrator recalls a tragic Nor'easter and a one eyed dog guarding a fallen companion, and notes their skilled seamanship and fearless nature.
