Gloucester Soldiers Board approves new directors and plans hospital

Tough Rose Still Clermont Saddler Known as The Rose of Clermont
Retired saddler Rose Harris 63 known as The Rose of Clermont survives 1916 flood fame. She saved five people from drowning, repeatedly entering the blazing roof to rescue others with ropes and halters as 30 inches of rain fell in December 1816. Harris, once a boxer and active in church and local sports, plans to reopen a saddlery business despite losing most of her life's work. Local residents recalled her heroism and community ties as Brisbane Courier-Mail notes.

Three men convicted in Coogee by election case
At Central Summons Court on Wednesday last Timorthy McCristal of Stoney Creek near Taree was fined £80 plus £22 16 2 costs for publishing pamphlets likely to mislead electors in the Coogees by election. McCristal appealed. John William Wallace Campbell of Victoria Road Ardle and Hugh Cecil Boyd of Sugarloaf Crescent Casuarina were fined £25 with £10 4 2 costs for printing an electoral pamphlet containing later statements and omitting names and addresses. Evidence showed the pamphlet was printed at The Roth newspaper office and Boyd and Campbell were proprietors of Protestant Publications and The Rock Newspaper Co.
