Bundook Road debate halts deviation plan at council
At last Friday's council meeting Dr J G Wilson reported an inspection of the Bundook Road deviation near White's and time ore's properties found the project too costly and not in the public interest to proceed. An alternative road through Kia-Ora to connect with Bundook Road was proposed with immediate construction. The Works Committee's report, including objections by Dr Livermore, was debated as members argued over road alignment, costs, and future development plans for the Gloucester shire.

Health Matters at Council Meeting on Park and Street Work
Health Inspector Mr J Murray told Council last Friday that a sewerage quote for the Park sought by the Bowling Club could be cheaper than expected. He has about 80 trees in pots for planting along Park boundaries and recommended more trees for the northern eastern and southern borders. A fence may be needed to protect young trees from stock and to block access to a camping area. If a fence runs from the Brandstand to the river cattle could be kept on the left land side. The Park Committee will discuss these points with the inspector. The council may obtain pig wire for tree guards. The inspector said the Church Street building owned by W S Sellick housing two families is in disrepair and currently unfit for human habitation, with no sewer or bathroom in the upstairs. He advised the owner to connect to the sewer and construct a dividing ground-floor wall, a recommendation adopted. Dr Breese reported the Garners Pty Ltd water fountain has not worked for weeks and the inspector will investigate.
