Tax Stamp Traffic Increases Fraud Despite Exemption
In Central Police Court last week Robert Allan Goodwin 22 an asbestos worker pleaded guilty to falsely claiming nine tax instalment stamps as his property to obtain 6 pounds 8 shillings. Police noted a growing practice of using stamps as legal tender to fraudulently claim refunds and evade assessments. Goodwin had bought stamps for four pounds and sought refunds via exemptions. his father had applied for but not issued an exemption certificate. Convicted, he was released on a 50 pound bond for two years and ordered to pay 3 pounds 3 pence costs.
