Beaverbrook Targets Argentine Beef Monopolies and Empire Trade
Lord Beaverbrook denounced five monopolistic firms led by Vestey’s as exploiting the British meat market. He accused American rivals Swift Armour Morris and Wilson of unity in price and shipping, urged an empire customs union, and warned of political change if Ottawa bacon is not secured. He pledged to press Australia’s role and resist Australia becoming only a producer of primary goods.
