Road Revenue from Forest Areas
In the Legislative Assembly Mr B S Vincent urged bringing NSW state forests under Local Government Act for rating. He argued timber traffic damages country roads more than other traffic and councils gain nothing from forest lands besides permissive occupancy or leases. He proposed treating leasehold land as freeholding for rating, to boost shire revenue by about £70,000 to £80,000 to meet needs.

Newsprint prices rise abroad and in Australia
Australian newsprint costs jumped from £10 10s to £15 15s per ton, with further increases possible as global production capacity stands at 9 million tons against demand of about 9 million. Kennedy, president of the Australian Newspaper Proprietors' Association, says US and Scandinavian prices vary widely and warns that the Australian Newsprint cooperative may cut production to 60 000 tons yearly by next June.
