Dairy on Close in Grafton area faces labour shortages
Mr A R Harrison manager of the Grafton Co operative Dairy Co says forty farmers in the Grafton area stopped sending cream and pigs to the local factory due to labour shortages. He estimates losses of butter and pigs across New South Wales could reach about 1800 tons and 4500 pigs monthly with bigger farms hit hardest. Many small farms may reduce supply in winter, and Army release applications via the factory manpower committee have only a 10 per cent success rate.
