Relics Unearthed From Convict Days Near Mindsribba
Excavation on the Hunter River near Mindsribba uncovered two iron relics from convict days including leg irons and a strait jacket, dating back over 100 years. The find, near the Dunmore Cemetery, was brought to Newcastle and will be returned to Mr. Eckford. The district historian Mr. J Grahame notes these items mark early penal transport history from Norfolk Island to Tasmanian and Hunter River sites.
