Native runner reports lost plane to VAOC
In the far north an outpost of the Volunteer Air Observers Corps located a De Havilland transport plane overdue at its base. A broken strut forced a landing on a remote strip and the occupants were safe. A native runner relayed the news to a town ship and VAOC observers relayed it to RAAF, preventing an unnecessary search. Engineers were dispatched from Cairns to repair the damage.
