A Leven strath correspondent reports a 4ft 9in black snake killed after swallowing a 3ft 1in brown snake. The brown snake later revealed it had eaten lizards before being eaten. The event, though snakes swallowing snakes happens, is noted as very rare. Also listed are an optometrists visit and a note on the British printing industry census.
A descriptive piece details Tiona a coastal camp near Wallis Lake and Cape Hawke about twelve miles south of Forster. The 80 acre reserve leased to the Latter Day Saints hosts a Christmas convention each year with tropical vegetation, cleared undergrowth, and walkways. Visitors fish surf and bream whiting along Boots and nearby beaches while a caretaker oversees amenities. Each year three to four hundred members gather to form avenues of tents leading to a large canvas meeting house.
Campers may cook their own meals or dine in the hall. A storeroom and permanent shelter stand alongside a pure water supply and an electric lighting plant. Visitors are welcomed and camping space is provided. Most residents are Christmas holiday surf fishermen and church adherents. after about two weeks the camp closes, returning Tiona to peace for another year.
A neighbour grows Soyer beans seed from China claiming yields up to 14 tons per acre. The writer says the beans supply nearly all vital elements except sugar, tone the nervous system, and boost confidence and concentration. Five beans every four hours and water reportedly inflates the body and stamina for bowls and shinty.
Mrs J Ramsay Fisher, arriving in Bris bane on the Nieuw Zeeland from Nilai and Federated Malay States, describes a rare Malay fire dance. A trench of burning wood charcoals heats dancers who move in a frenzy then walk over hot embers, pass through a cocoanut milk pool and enter a temple, with no observed burns on the performers.
