Drowned at Punt Youth Norman Smith Dies in River
A 16 year old, Norman Smith, died after swimming near the Tinonee punt approach as a ferry crossed the river on a Sunday evening. He was seen hanging on the punt, then disappeared as water depths grew. Police and local residents attempted revival with artificial respiration but he was pronounced dead at the scene. An inquest will be held.

Rails Excursions Extend to End of January
The state wide excursion trains continue into late January enabling distant residents to visit the city and seaside for holidays. Anniversary Day falls February 1 with Randwick races and harbour regatta. Obituary for Mrs Georgy Lowrey of Dungog
Mrs Georgy Lowrey died at her home in Dungog after a prolonged illness. She was born at Canngalha and lived much of her life in the Dungog district on Greenbank Eastbank dairy farm. Survived by her husband three sons Joseph Kenneth Oliver and two daughters Mrs Parsons and Mrs Wenham. One son and a daughter died young. Grandchildren number 18 and three brothers and five sisters also survived. Funeral from her home with service by Rev J W McCredie, burial in Presbyterian portion of Dungog cemetery.

Excavations Reveal Castle Ditch Forts at Eddisbury
Old Hill Fort at Eddisbury on the Cheshire ridge near the Weaver and Gowy rivers shows a 40 foot wide rampart base and 300 feet of solid rock quarry. Roman, Cromwell, and Saxon activity are linked to its dismantling and later reuse as a dwelling and hut site.
