Canadian and Allied War Updates in Brief
The Times Athens correspondent notes Italian prisoners in the Greek campaign equal a percentage of the initial Alania force. Canada reports 175 ships and 16,319 officers with targets rising to 413 ships and 26,920 personnel by March 31, 1942. Training planes will grow from 1 700 to 4 000 under the Imperial Air Scheme. Canada plans 25 new squadrons and to focus on tanks, Bren guns, planes, anti tank guns, and scrap iron from the U S. Five airliners between New York and Los Angeles may carry 35 passengers at 6600 metres, aiding pilot transfers. London reports only two dozen children needing evacuation due to raids. UK officials pledge to avoid prewar social extremes. British pursuit plans with cannon and a Southend Heinkel shootdown are cited, with Spitfires interdicting the attacker after a debris-filled encounter.
