A furious Sunday blaze across Victoria devastates timber districts. Warburton Pat's Creek Nojee Erica and surrounding areas suffer heavy loss with many towns wiped out. Dozens killed and hundreds displaced as mills bridges and lines are destroyed and rescue efforts continue under threatening weather.
A survivor recalls the final hours of Noojes town as fire raged and a cool southerly turn saved the last building, the Noojes Hotel. About 100 women and children sheltered there while refugees fled toward Warra gul by car and horse. Thousands of homes in Soully region were destroyed.
