Motor Registrations Drop in Australia in 1940
War conditions caused a record delicensing of motor registrations in 1940 Australia with more than 64 500 vehicles removed from use. Cars totaled about 45 600 and commercial vehicles 18 730, reducing in-use cars and CVs. New car sales fell from roughly 75 000 to just over 39 000, leaving about 25 000 fewer automobiles than a year ago, aiding petrol rationing by about £ million gallons if current schedules hold.
