More wooden houses urged in Australia by science council

The forest productions division of the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research urged building more wooden houses in Australia. It argued timber homes are cheaper to construct, quicker to build, and not more prone to fire than brick, noting fires are usually caused internally. Despite studies in the United States and Britain supporting timber houses, some local authorities fear reduced ratable value and higher insurance costs in Avutvalla.
