The Gloucester Shire Council will not hire an assistant engineer now, deferring the decision until finances improve. Two applicants were considered, including a returned soldier studying for local government engineering. Discussion noted the workload and costs, with plans to seek departmental review on concrete crossings and the Gloucester River bridge.
Department of Main Roads lists plans and estimates for Developmental Flood 1100 at Waukivory returned for minor amendments and expected to be resubmitted. Clerks note the plans went out last week. Forestr y Commission acknowledges council letter on Bowman Craven Protes a Posed grant and reports investigation by local officers. Council to be advised. Oxley Regional Development committees forward Premier’s Department reformation request and nominate. President Dr Moora re nominated. Deaf, Dumb and Blind Institute appeals for £3/3 donated. Gloucester Council presses for continuation of Foggs Motor Service Pty Ltd amid opposition claims the Stroud to Newcastle route duplicates other services and endangers a school run. Officials note strong local support and urge ministerial intervention to prevent retrograde cuts.
A well attended Gloucester A H P Association meeting outlined eight weeks to the annual show. Plans include inviting J. P. Abbott to open the 1948 event, tendering for luncheon and refreshment stalls, and adding cattle and camp drafting layout improvements. The secretary will seek a temporary showground telephone and repairs to the electrical meter box.
Maitland's 31st Annual Show runs March 4 6 with a £600 two day prize pool. Includes ten trotting races principal £100 race and a £50 champion camp draft. Cunningham Rangers musical rides and massed bands Friday night. Cattle prize money up £80, stock owners offered improved facilities. Entries close February 16.
