Gloucester PP Board Stock Inspector Report on Cattle Diseases
The Stock Inspector V P Freeman reviews disease trends for dairy and beef cattle. Mastitis milk fever and brucellosis are common, with worm infestations in young cattle. Tuberculin testing is argued but funding and staff gaps delay compulsory schemes. 227 cattle were moved under Order for Movement in 1949 and 236 610 cattle were inspected at sales along with 283 dairies visited and 10 051 dairy cows inspected. Pasture and reserve works planned including fencing repairs and rabbit control. The outlook notes heavy rains improve farms and beef cattle conditioning remains strong toward autumn.
