Amendment sets rabbit proof fence standards in NSW
The Glaxiers' Association of New South Wales states a presuit standard for rabbit proof fencing under the IP Act. The fence must be 42 inches wide, 17 gauge, and 1 inch mesh, applying to pre and post Act constructions. Regulation 75 will add that fences erected before January 1926 with galvanised wire netting at least 26 inches wide, not less than 18 gauge, and mesh not wider than 1 1/4 inch are included.

Ballina resident Mrs. Eliza Winton aged 97 recalls the 1788 Sydney Cove landing with Captain Arthur Phillip. Daughter of John Smith who joined the guard, she was born in East Maitland in 1841 and later lived in Maitland before moving to Ballina. her first marriage was Andergyn. Her husband died when the Maria wrecked near Bartier Reef during a New Guinea trip. She moved to Woodburn in 1877 and has resided in Ballina for almost six decades.
