The Port Stephens plan to become a naval base drew renewed interest after Admiral Henderson's visit. Government action, earlier construction, sale of plant to Newcastle firm, and subsequent disposal at Walsh Island reflect a fading effort. Cabinet members favor port improvements, dual naval and air use, and strong ties to Park Stephens with a 9000 yard entrance and 30 foot low tide depth.

A Fulton elementary pupil in Chicago writes right to left and bottom to top, a rare pattern that stumps teachers and defies normal handwriting. Edward Franklin, a Coventry motor mechanic aged 19, paces with a ticking sound from an imagined clock in his head, vanishing only when he speaks. Emmie Wilson, four, from Memphis, talks constantly about toys and adventures, and sedation may be required to stop the incessant chatter.
