Proclamation Sets Fruit Fly Control Rules for Farms
A Plant Diseases Act proclamation requires landowners and occupiers to collect fallen fruit every three days and to boil burn or pit waste fruit to prevent fruit fly spread. It mandates removal of seville oranges and mandarins by set dates and, in restricted areas, weekly spraying or trapping on pome and stone fruits for five weeks before harvest. Penalties include up to £50 for noncompliance.
