Sydney cattle buyers offered more stock than needed as prices slipped across prime beef from 27/ to 35/ with bulls at £11 10s and cows to £9. Maitland fat cattle rose with best bullocks reaching £12 to £13 6d, cows to £10, and calves and pigs showing varied strong demand amid improving yardings.
November shows top butter fat from an Australian Alawarra Shorthorn and a Jersey. The Alawarra Shorthorn owned by J. T. Young and Sons produced 21 507 lb milk at 4.7 percent test, equaling 1012.89 lb butter fat in a year. The Jersey Richmond Honour at Hawkesbury Agricultural College yielded 12 589 lb milk in 273 days at 6.2 percent, equaling 783.32 lb butter fat. Among 69 privately owned cows, 46 Jerseys, 16 Australian Shorthorns, four Friesians, three Guernseys. J. R. Knapp and Sons’ four-year-old ALS Swansea Blossom 15th produced 10 259 lb milk at 5.1 percent, 522.78 lb butter fat. A mature Friesian owned by W. J. Lamond yielded 12 913 lb milk at 4.1 percent, 498.53 lb butter fat.
