New State Boundaries Commission hears Gloucester and Port Stephens case

The New States Boundaries Commission met at West Maitland on Thursday 7th inst to hear Northern witnesses on creating new states. Gloucester district spokesmen highlighted dairying and limestone resources, while Port Stephens advocates argued for coastal port development to boost hinterland trade and complement Newcastle.

A yarding of 1080 fat cattle at Maitland Monday, cow and hei fers dominant, hullocks, steers and dealers firmer with 5 to 10 pence dearer. Best hullocks £11, steers £5 10, cows to £8 8 6. vealers £8 16, others £2 10. Gloucester beef prices ranged 26 to 41 shillings per 100 pounds. Homebush tast noted. Laurie at Gloucester secured £8 6, with Bullocks sold by Winchcombe Carson Ltd.
