Transported stock debated under travelling stock rates
At the Yass PP Board meeting Secretary Mr Hickey raised whether stock moved by transport along roads qualified for travelling stock charges. Mr Merriman argued the charge applies to travelling stock only, not to stock carried by transport, and moved that transported stock on the road should not be liable. Travelling stock charges aim to fund reserves and grass on stock routes.

Captain Maurice Wilson died on Mount Everest after summiting alone to Camp 3 with three porters, later found 21 000 feet up. He had previously flown to India in 1933 and planned to plant a Union Jack on Everest, disguising as an Indian porter to repeat the climb. His body was found by a party preparing a future ascent and he was buried in a crevasse with a cairn raised in his memory.
