Seed Maize Competition Yields Strong Despite Adverse Start

In difficult early season conditions sowings were delayed to December, delaying maturation for late varieties. Despite this, late autumn and early winter weather allowed most plots to ripen, with Manning Silvermine by Shaw Bros winning the event and averaging nearly 80 bushels. Golden Nugget and Hybrid entries posted solid results, while Department hybrids drew strong interest for next season. Breeding hybrid maize lags slightly due to war, but results show progress and many local growers seek seed for next year.
