Fire destroys Trinity Presbyterian Church in Bromley

A lightning strike on the tall steeple of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Freelands Road Bromley Kent started a blaze that burned for nearly four hours leaving only the brick shell and steeple. The Rev F W Armstrong conducted an afternoon service miles away in the Robert Whyte Memorial Hall. The adjoining Sunday School building also bore the blaze but no congregation was present. Bromley and Beckenham fire brigades fought the flames as brickwork and robes were saved. Rev W R Musselwhite directed salvage efforts and helped move the bows before returning to his parish.
