This Place They Call Tobruk Poem by Hugh Paterson
This poem reflects a soldier's view of Tobruk during wartime, contrasting harsh desert conditions with home comforts. It mentions places like Tobruk El Agheila El Abiar and Beda Fom, bunkers, scarcity of booze, pests, and shelling, ending with a plea to return Tobruk to the Arabs. It notes the author as Hugh Paterson, son of Banjo Paterson, and that the piece was forwarded to Mr. R. W. Alison and read at a Dungog association meeting.
