A departmental pamphlet notes pigs require little preparation for feed. Maize can be fed shelled or on the cob with modest grinding. Cracking grains saves more when pigs eat in groups. Self feeders slow eating and improve utilization, grinding may save feed. Soaking is ineffective. cooking generally raises value only for some foods. warm swill offers slight benefit in cold weather. Slopping swill fattening pigs has little justification.
