Tax Changes Proposed Reduces Child Allowance to One
The Federal Government proposes amending the Income Tax Act to limit the £50 per child allowance to the first child only. Treasurer Mr Fadden explained the plan will be funded by income tax collected in 1941-42 and apply to income for the year ended June 30, 1942. He noted that exemptions certificates may not be required for taxpayers with multiple dependents, and that payroll deductions reflect taxes assessed on incomes from the preceding year.
