Nationwide meat publicity plan proposed to fund via levies
Proposals presented to Minister for Commerce Sir Warle Page by the Master Butchers Federation of Australia and the Master Butchers Association of New South Wales outline compulsory levies at slaughter inspection to finance a public meat publicity campaign. Levies would be 1 per carcase or 2 per beef carcass, split producer retailer, with an estimated £35,000 available. Page welcomed the scheme noting higher lamb consumption and cheaper prices to aid war effort and public welfare. Storage of 27,000 tons of meat since the war was discussed alongside erection of temporary stores in Gladstone, Murray, Sydney and Tasmania to support transport and supply via coastal shipping.

State Poll on May 10 Premier Seeks Unity in War
The State elections would be held on May 10 announced by Premier Mr Mair on Monday night. He said the war’s seriousness prompts the earliest possible date and that a stable government should be secured swiftly. He would have preferred a national government with the Opposition but the Opposition would not join, so the election campaign proceeds amid war-related interference and national concerns. Gloucester seat candidate Mr Bruce pledges independence and justice, argues for abolishing State Parliaments, warns against over-administration, and calls for one Parliament and one governor.
