Water Supply Bore Found Near Tuncurry Aids Plan
Forster and Tuncurry move toward a shared water supply with the Public Works Department directing A. A. Ramsay to drill borings. Early results near Chapman’s property show excellent water at 64 feet, capable of about 50 000 gallons per hour, enough for both towns. Further borings along the highway toward Taree and near Tuncurry Beach are planned to determine pump locations and reservoir placement. The water sample is of excellent quality, with no mineral taste or odor, pending official testing. Ramsay also continues work at Tomago sand beds and will test at Tea Gardens for the proposed system.

During Hawkes Bay’s first innings local batsmen tapped the turf with a vertical bat to ward off worms causing a distraction. Australians initially laughed but later had to tap the pitch themselves as worms stretched across the good-length area.

In the Legislative Assembly last Tuesday Liberal MLA E D Derby urged decentralising education to halt the drift to cities. He argued rural schools need local decision making, decentralised correspondence teaching, more subsidised hostels, and mobile demonstration units to offer strong promotion paths and reduce reliance on metropolitan schools.
