The Glenboro Gazette resumes after a summer hiatus publishing monthly wide coverage papers starting next week September 21. The edition will reach an extra 3500 households at no additional charge and will serve Cypress and surrounding communities.
The notice lists deadline times for classified and display ads across several towns including oY River Wawanesa Holland Mariapolis St Alphonse Stockton Glenora Bruxelles Baldur Cartwright Ninette and Dunrea plus Glenboro. Classified ads due Monday September 19 at 5 p.m. Display ads due 10 a.m. Tuesday September 20.
The Glenboro Rink Committee will not host its annual hockey draft fundraiser this year due to an updated Order in Council from Manitoba Lotteries. The draft allowed participant choice of players and did not fit raffle licensing. The event raised over $2,000 annually. committee plans alternative fundraisers.
A federal study finds Manitoba has one of the highest part-time rates in Canada with about 145000 workers, 27 percent of the workforce. It notes 40 percent of part-timers are students, 20 percent not seeking full time work, and 10 percent moonlighting in Prairie provinces.
Maria Berry reports the 1994 Glenboro Farmers Market season closed on Saturday September 10. Vendors and shoppers enjoyed Manitoba made goods along with free draws ice cream cookies and doughnuts. Signs for the Farmers Market highway route were erected September 7 on Highway No. 2 east and west of Broadway Street. The Manitoba Farmers Market Co op with Glenboro Development Corporation funded the signs up to 100 each.
The Terry Fox Run takes place in Glenboro this Sunday from 2 PM to 4 PM starting and finishing at the Camel. Everyone is invited to participate and Glenboro School children will hold their run on Wednesday. Pledge sheets are available from Darren Myers Spruce Lakes Recreation District Director.
Canada Post plans a two cent increase to mailing rates starting October 1 1994 The basic Canadian domestic letter would cost 45 cents while U S destinations rise to 52 cents and other international destinations to 90 cents The move affects standard letter rates and international mail pricing.
