Heavy rainfall slowed Glenboro sewer construction as workers struggled with waterlogged ground. A pumping unit dewaters soil to enable digging for the sewer pipe, using sand points to remove groundwater while a digger excavates and shows a strong water discharge from the dewatering system.
A letter from Vic Brown of Regina sends greetings to Glemboro friends. He underwent major surgery but is said to be well now. During the week Mr. and Mrs. Art Mansoff and Jo-Anne of Dauphin visited Mrs. Loyst and Mr. and Mrs. ney Tosh.
A Manitoba reporter tours Camp Gagetown New Brunswick the site of Operation Eastern Star the largest manoeuvre of its kind in the Dominion. The piece details the camp scale its facilities artillery and paratrooper drills led by Lt Beaudry and Maj Gen Plow and notes the integration of married quarters with a local civil village amid North Atlantic Treaty commitments.
A new Glenboro business named GLENBORO TV SERVICE opens in the old hospital building to service radio and television sets. Ferenz Foldy, recently from Hungary after the 1956 revolution, brings advanced electronics training and will lead repairs with future color TV work. Partner Looyenga handles business affairs as the operation services local sets.
Prolonged rains delay harvesting and sewer work in Glenboro while local families from Winnipeg and Quebec travel for visits. Grand Man Baptist service in Grand finished with farewell for Donald Olsen as he returns to U.S. for studies. Additional notes: Nellie McKenzie returns from travels in Europe and Marvel France. Keith Nattrass Kenny and family visit from Winnipeg for the long weekend.
Convention delegates President Harold Curll and Charlie Hall described a pleasant and profitable time in Regina last week. E. B. Pete Lyle of Calgary was elected Governor of the Western Canada District for 1958. Charlie Stalker of Rivers, Royal Bank manager, was chosen Lieutenant Governor for the Western Manitoba Division. At the Friday meeting G. M. Smith received a four year perfect attendance button and Curll received a two year button. Five members now have over four years of perfect attendance since the club began.
The Real Property Act Notice warns that after September 30, 1957, unless shown otherwise, a dealing registering land in Manitoba may dispense with producing Certificate of Title No. 13936 held for GADNI JULIUS OLESON. It covers the North West Quarter of Section Thirty, Township Eight, Range Thirteen West, except waters of the Assiniboine River, with reservations as in the Crown grant. F Robb of Brandon defeats Clayton Marsh of Moose Jaw in a five hole playoff after a 113 tied for 27 holes to win the championship flight. Sixty four golfers entered. other flight winners include Roy Wallis Glenboro and Walter Sokol ski Brandon.
Mr and Mrs J F Fumerton marked their 70th wedding anniversary on Saturday August 10 in Kelowna B C surrounded by family. Messages of congratulations included Queen Elizabeth II Prime Minister John Diefenbaker and local officials with a royal visit in person by Kelowna mayor J J Ladd and Regatta Commodore Geo S Mooney. Out of town relatives joined a quiet family dinner at the Royal Anne Hotel then attended the closing Regatta performance and were greeted by an ovation. The couple operated a Glenboro general store for many years and were honored at home by family and church attendance at First United Church.
