Farmers Night Plans Highlight Kiwanis Meeting
Kiwanis members report attendance steady at a business meeting in Brandon. Six members with spouses described their Winnipeg trip and the Brandon Ladies Night visit on Nov 2, with Farmers Night set for Nov 15 at 6 30 pm in the Legion hall. An alphabetical three section list of eligible area farmers is available at Reg Rawlings store. Chris Thor of Branc on is guest speaker with two Brandon musical groups providing entertainment. Howard Foster reported his Regina conference trip and was welcomed as Division chairman of the Support of Churches committee amid a cited Readers Digest church bulletin urging renewed church involvement.

Mr and Mrs W A Dewart and Jamie traveled to Winnipeg to visit daughter Dorothy. Mr and Mrs Jas Graham Cath erie and Kevin spent the weekend away. The Kenyons and girls vacationed with Mrs A Luther over the long weekend. Oliver Rolfe and family visiting Carman. On Nov 6 Stockton 4H club hosted residents at the school to aid Orville Moore family after their fire. After whist, Mrs George Shepherd voiced wishes for the community and club gifts were given. Moore thanked attendees and the girls served lunch. Brown attended the 4th annual Golden Boys Award Dinner in Winnipeg on Nov 8. A newly organized hockey club held a successful evening in the school on Nov 5 with a bingo run and auction raising 96 dollars. Auctioneer was Mr N Derkach. Thanks go to all contributors. Jas Leader drove to Dauphin for several days. J Sullivan visited Winnipeg for the weekend. Mrs R Harrod and Bobbie of Brandon visit Mrs Harrod's parents Mr and Mrs George Rutherford.

Legion and Auxiliary members, high school students, and locals gathered November 11 at the United Church for Remembrance Day honoring fallen service members from World Wars I and II. Rev. Jas McKay and Rev. Ek Robertson led the service before wreaths and poppies were laid at the Cenotaph.

Lake William Yields Heaviest Ever Rainbow Trout
On October 26 M P Schreiner of Minto Manitoba caught a 10 pound 6 ounce rainbow trout using a worm. The fish measured 26 14 inches in length with an 8 inch girth making it Manitoba’s heaviest rainbow and a strong record against North Dakota and prior Manitoba catches. The 1963 record was a 38 pound 2 ounce northern pike from Winnipeg River.

Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Blagden 82 of Holland Manitoba died November 9. Funeral at Holland Anglican Church with Rev. T Weaver. burial in Brookdale Cemetery. She was born May 1881 in Easterton England and came to Canada in 1903 with her husband S T Blagden who died in 1931. She leaves ten children and a large number of grandchildren.

Grimsi Hallgrimur Hallgrimson died Saturday at Winnipeg General Hospital. Funeral service Tuesday at Bru Lutheran Church with Rev. K Robertson officiating and interment in Bru cemetery. Pallbearers included nephews and local relatives. Survived by five children, a sister, three brothers, and twenty six grandchildren. Born May 30, 1899 in Garda North Dakota, he moved to Canada as a child and lived in Arborg Man and Bru district before farming near Glenboro and later north-east of Glenboro.

Muskies Thrive in Manitoba Nursery Waters
Muskies introduced last spring in Manitoba ponds have grown rapidly, with some fry adding over a foot in five months at Beautiful Lake in the Duck Mountain area. Officials see potential for using the lake as a nursery to stock other waters, as 20 000 muskellungery were planted. The fish, not native to Manitoba, commonly reach 20 to 40 pounds. The fisheries branch also reports brook trout and splake growth from fingerlings planted last spring to seven and eight inches in northern lakes after prior poisoning of coarse fish.

Clever clerical scam nets wedding gift by trading stamps
A mail room clerk in a mid western factory organized a scheme collecting quarters from 2000 employees to buy cigarettes with coupons. He exchanged the coupons for a silver coffee service to present as a wedding gift and repaid contributors with a pack of cigarettes. He had also redeemed 5000 trading stamps for a fishing outfit. The management praised his cleverness while noting his rewards were already received.
